China news agency, London, May 31 (Reporter Zhang Ping) The Kensington and Chelsea City Council, where the fire broke out at the Glenfair Building in London, decided on the 30th to replace all the residential fire doors in the area, reaching more than 4,000.

A spokesperson for the Kensington and Chelsea City Council said the plan had to be launched as a “emergency matter”. The initiative is expected to cost £3.5 million.

In the fire accident investigation, the police found that the residential fire doors in the Glenfield Building failed to pass the fire protection test, and the fire prevention time was only 15 minutes, instead of the 30 minutes required by the building regulations.

James Brokenshire, the UK housing minister, said that all fire doors in the UK that use the same Gleniff building must be replaced, but insisted that "public safety risks are still low."

A spokesperson for the Kensington and Chelsea City Council said: "All new doors will be rigorously reviewed by independent testing agencies, and 100% of them can be determined to be at least 30 minutes resistant to fire."

The Glenfair Building in London's West End is 24 stories high and has 120 people. A fire broke out in the building on the morning of June 14, 2017, killing 72 people and injuring dozens. At present, the aftermath of fire accident investigation and rescue medical placement is still in progress. (Finish)
